Football index is an innovative platform that allows fans to become traders on a football stock market, using their knowledge of the game to make money. It's fantasy football mixed with financial trading, whats not to like! Betminds has returned an 18% return on investment (ROI) on the first few days worth of trading, read the review below as to how we did it.
So what is Football Index? Fans act as traders by buying and selling 'football futures' in the world's top players. Like any other futures market, fans can bet on the future success of a player and build portfolios of those they believe will perform well. When a player performs well, their value goes up. This presents the opportunity to 'sell' the player shares back to the market for more than the original purchase price, in other words selling for a profit.
Unlike fantasy football, you don't pick a team as such, you just invest in players that you believe have potential to perform in the future. The value of a player is determined by the demand from other traders, how well the player performs on the pitch and how much media coverage they get. Players that top the 'match day rankings' and the 'media rankings' earn dividends for shareholders.
Football Index: Give it a try with up to £500 risk-free trading
Betminds decided to saddle up and have a go at this ourselves with an investment of £200. Unlike spread betting, you can't lose anything larger than your investment stake and unlike traditional bookmaker gambling, if your shares do devalue it won't result in an outright loss of your cash. That said we strongly advise against putting all your eggs in one basket, spread your risk! If a trader had shares in only one individual player who then went on to suffer a significant enough injury, the shares could become worthless. However as the guys at Football Index are kind enough to offer the £500 refund on first week losses, then we thought we would focus on one player as a punt.
The rumours about Mahrez leaving Leicester City won't go away and if anything have escalated in recent days despite manager Claude Puel believing he can 'seduce' him to stay. A Mahrez move to a top club will have the potential to dramatically increase the futures price for this player with demand from other traders increasing as well as potential 'media rankings' dividend payouts. With that in mind, we maxed our shares in Mahrez (100 shares is the most allowed) with a view to hold them until the transfer window opens. The shares were bough at £1.27 each (£127 outlay in total). The rest of the initial £200 investment was divided and invested in some other players rated in the Betminds office - Eriksen, Immobile, Alcantara and Hummels.
After 7 days our porfolio looks like this
The share price of Mahrez has risen from £1.27 to £1.66, increasing the value of our shares in this player by £39. The other players have made marginal moves both up and down to largely balance out. Overall our original £200 investment has risen to £237 which makes a whopping 18% profit. We expect Mahrez share price to rise and rise from here with the added possibility of future dividend payouts should he top the media rankings 'buzz' league. As of this morning, Mahrez is being linked to a move to Man City which will only increase the chance of a nice dividend payout.
Overall, we have been impressed with the site. It's pretty addictive and can see it being really rewarding for those with excellent football knowledge. The website layout is clean and intuitive, especially on the mobile version. We will definitely be investing some more cash into our portfolio in the near future and look forward to updating you with our progress.
